Yupo Workshop by Judith Meyer
Saturday, October 15, 2011
Judith Meyer will be giving a Yupo Workshop in the WNMU Painting Studio (Chino 102)!

Yupo is a (mostly) synthetic watercolor paper that was developed in Japan for sign painting.  It acts differently than all other papers because water, or any form of moisture is not absorbed, but mainly evaporates off the paper making it a good vehicle for all kinds of wonderful surface application . Workshop participants will complete a watercolor on yupo (approx. 22x26in) painting based on images from the Hubble Space telescope.  All materials are provided.  If participants would bring some foam brushes in a variety of sizes, that would be great! We will view a wonderful and very informative film about many of the techniques that can be used on the yupo paper.  There will be examples of this project for participants to see as well.  This is a fun project, just leave your previous ideas about painting at home and dive in!

There is limited seating, and the workshop is open to anyone -- a check for the amount(s) below secures your spot! (Please enter the Painting Studio from 10th Street - click for WNMU Campus Map.)
      $20 for MoDaug members
      $25 for non-members
      (invite a friend!)
Fee includes materials, and a percentage of the cost will help raise funds for our non-profit application.  Bring your own lunch - call 534-9415 or email for more information, or mail a check to our PO Box - please memo "MoDaug Yupo Workshop" on the check.  (Click to visit the event on our Facebook page -- share it with your friends!)

This workshop was originally scheduled for Sat. Aug. 6 but was postponed due to unexpected construction in the WNMU Painting Studio (Chino 102).  So many of our members are out of town this month, so we would like to have a short membership meeting right before the Yupo workshop -- members, please RSVP!

Friday, September 16
Las Cruces Museum of Art & Branigan Cultural Center
On the 9/16, a handful of members went to see the "From the Ground Up XXV" exhibit at the Las Cruces Museum of Art — a really beautiful collection of ceramics.

At the Brannigan Center we were very inspired by a 9/11 tribute called "5,000 Flowers", a collaboration that gave us some big ideas! The exhibit is the 10th annual and final commemorative exhibit to honor those lost on 9/11/2001 presented by The General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) Progress Club of Las Cruces.

After a yummy lunch we hit the stores, finishing the trip off with a Hobby Lobby fix, then headed back to Silver City with the car loaded :-).

August 1 - 31
Mother/Daughter Exhibit at Javalina
Several mother/daughter/granddaughter members had their art on exhibit at Javalina Coffee House on Bullard St. in downtown Silver City for the month of August.  The opening reception was "First Friday", August 5, and we thank everyone who came out and celebrated our first Guild exhibit! The reception was well-attended, and everyone loved the unique art, as well as the great acoustic blues by Jonny Mahaffy (thank you, Jonny!)
